"Our practice is entirely focused on workers’ compensation. After working for many years in legal practices which prized volume over personal attention, I created Abdo Law as a client-centered organization. Over nearly 15 years, I have handled thousands of workers’ compensation cases and I have represented injured workers, insurance carriers and employers.

In January of 2019, attorney Michael J. O'Brien, one of the most respected workers’ compensation attorneys in New York State, and I merged our firms to provide truly exceptional experience for our clients. Abdo & O'Brien has the freedom to take on the representation of those whom we believe are most in need and we pride ourselves on providing exceptional representation to injured workers all across Central and Northern New York."

Why Hire A Workers' Compensation Lawyer?

  • A Workers’ Compensation lawyer can make sure that an injured worker receives the maximum amount of compensation allowed by the state. Also, a lawyer can assist an injured worker in getting timely medical treatment and payment of medical bills.

  • If your claim has been denied, or you’re not satisfied with the medical care you’re receiving, or you feel your case has been undervalued, you deserve your day in court!

  • You have been given less work due to your injury and are being paid less.

  • Your workers' compensation benefits have suddenly stopped, but you are not fully recovered from your accident.

  • The workers' compensation insurance company claims your injury existed before your accident.

What Can Abdo & O’Brien Do For You?

Representation by Abdo & O’Brien can help ensure that:

  • Your case has been established for all of your injuries, thus ensuring your right to pursue future treatment for those injuries.

  • You have the best chance at obtaining authorization for the medical procedures that your doctors feel are medically necessary and which may expedite your recovery.

  • You do not “leave money on the table”. Absent knowledgeable representation, you will frequently receive less in indemnity (money) benefits than what was actually available to you. This holds true for periods of temporary disability, when addressing permanency and/ or when attempting to settle your case.

About Alex Abdo

Alex’s primary focus is in Workers’ Compensation matters, where he has handled thousands of cases since 2005, appearing on behalf of claimants, insurance carriers, self-insureds, and municipalities at hearings and trials in Syracuse, Utica, Watertown, Binghamton, Rochester, Norwich and Elmira.

Alex honed his analytical skills while clerking for Judge William Van Nortwick, Jr. on Florida’s First District Court of Appeal, as well as working as a Legislation Analyst for the Committee on Local Government & Veterans’ Affairs at the Florida House of Representatives.

Prior to moving back to Syracuse, NY in 2005 to be closer to family, Alex amassed considerable litigation experience while participating in over 100 trials (non-jury and jury) with the Hillsborough County (Tampa) Public Defender’s Office.  As a result of his prior opportunities, Alex is equally skilled in litigation and negotiation.  He understands that the littlest of things can make the largest difference when it comes to leverage in a legal matter and prides himself on his attention to detail.

Alex worked as a partner with a prominent Syracuse law firm for almost eight years, focusing primarily on representing carriers and employers in workers’ compensation matters.  While Alex excelled and drew consistent praise from his corporate clients, he didn’t enjoy the work which left him feeling unfulfilled.  Given that Alex has always enjoyed working with and helping people, he resigned his position in March of 2013 and founded his own law firm, Abdo Law, P.C., to focus his skills on providing for the needs of injured workers throughout New York state.  In addition to running his own firm, Alex worked as Special Counsel to Kenney, Shelton, Liptak & Nowak, LLP from 2013 to 2015 and as Special Counsel to Habberfield Kaszycki until March of 2018.

Alex earned his B.S., cum laude, in Applied Psychology with a Business minor from Ithaca College.  He earned his J.D, cum laude, from the Florida State University College of Law.

Alex is an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Camillus, NY as well as the Optimist Club of Camillus, New York.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Onondaga County Bar Association and the Injured Workers’ Bar Association.
